DIY - Fireplace Peel & Stick Decals (Easy DIY)

IMG_9207.jpg

Are you looking for an easy DIY project? Have you heard of Peel & Stick Tiles?

Grab a beer and let me show you how easy this is.

So my upstairs fireplace is just for show… for now. The previous owner capped it so it doesn’t currently work. Eventually, I would love to have a cozy fire while I enjoy a stout but in the mean time I can just make it look cool.

I absolutely love how a fireplace brings any room together. It is the the main focal point of my living room. Honestly, whoever built this in the 1930s must of been such a cool person. If you look closely you can see some of the artsy brick designs that you normally don’t see today.

Anyways the floor tile that is used is just blah, so I wanted to do a quick update to make it a beer worthy project.

Materials needed:

Step 1: Grab a Beer (probably only need one for this simple project).

If you have visited my other DIY projects you should know that Step 1 is always going to be “Grab your beer”.

Today I am having Mocha Machine by Beachwood Brewing. It is an Imperial Coffee Chocolate Porter. IT’s SOO good. It’s a smooth tasty porter with strong coffee & chocolate flavors. If you like coffee and porters, then this beer is for you.

Step 2: Measure the tile you want to cover

Research what Peel & Stick tiles will work for you. For me I wanted something that was removable and durable. I may eventually install new tile or paint the current tile but for now I needed to give the old tile a quick makeover.

Make sure you measure the tile before you buy (don’t include the grout).

Step 3: Buy your Peel & Stick Tiles

Like I said I wanted durable yet removable Peel & Stick tiles and came across these ones on Etsy called SnazzyDecal. Be careful some Peel & Stick tiles may not be removable - So double check.

Also! If you rent this is a perfect way to make your rental feel more cozy and homey. Peel & Stick wallpaper/tile/backsplash should be your friend because it’s easy to apply and removable!!! Try it out renters!!

Also, make sure you count how many tiles you will need to cover your area. Double check your measurements. Always smart to get more just incase (I used one of my backups).

Step 4: Clean the tile

Clean your tile to ensure the peel & sticks will stick to the surface. Use dish soap & water mixture to remove all traces of dust, dirt and grease completely.

I know you are going to get excited to start applying the stickers but wait it out! Drink you beer, let the tile completely dry.

Step 5: Apply the Sticker

Peel the back of the sticker around 1-2 inches then align the sticker to the top of the tile. Once it is aligned press the sticker to the tile then peel the remaining backing paper while smoothing out any bubbles with your squeegee .

Repeat this process for each tile. Make sure when you are aligning each tile it is applied evenly and centered. It is that easy!

If your tile was cut off in some sections like mine, just apply the full tile sticker then use a box cutter to make a straight cut. Remove the left over peel & stick tile.

Step 6: Step back and enjoy your beer

Like I said this project is very easy but honestly it totally transformed my fireplace. Give it a try and if you hate it just peel it off! That’s the beauty of it.
