DIY - Rug Art
Do you have an old rug lying around that is just being stored under your bed or in storage? Is it wall worthy? If you said yes to both those questions then let’s make Rug Art.
Materials Needed:
Beer of your choice
Old Rug | Thrifted Rug (any wall worthy rug)
Scissors (for fringes)
Wooden Poster Hanger (Magnetic ones won’t work well).
Lint Roller (If you have pets)
Nail
Hammer
Get Started
Step 1: Grab your beer
Today I am drinking Lagunitas Day Time IPA. During the week I am trying to be good and not go crazy with drinking beers. This beer is perfect. It’s light and crisp and only 98 calories! Can’t beat that. Now open your beer, enjoy it and let’s make Rug Art.
Note:* This DIY project is short only one beer is needed.
Step 2: Get your rug “wall-ready”
This has not been used for 3 years now. It was in my first apartment when I moved out to Colorado. I haven’t used it because it just hasn’t fit any of my spaces. I was going to throw it away or bring it to goodwill but then my brain does this weird thing and I randomly think “I can make this rug into a cool art thingy”.
In order for me to get this rug “wall-ready” I need to cut the fringes (I think thats what you call them). If your rug doesn’t have any stringy things then your rug is pretty much born “wall-ready”.
Cut the fringes on both sides. If your rug has a large tag attached to it I would also cut that off so it’s not visible when you hang it.
Fringe free rug but my dog, Ruger, is definitely making his appearance here with his fur everywhere. Take a lint roller and remove the pup fur. Just make sure your rug doesn’t look like a dog bed. Unless you think that is part of your rug wall art.
Step 3: Poster Hanger Time
This can be tricky. My rug was the perfect size for this Poster Hanger I had laying around in my decoration bin. I wanted to use it for a Colorado 14er poster but it was too small. I got this one from Ikea, it was the perfect poster hanger for this project because its not magnetic. Note*: the magnetic poster hangers will not work for this project. The one from Ikea is 2 ¾ Width, Height: 1, Length: 24 . My rug is about 22.5 in length, so it’s a little short but we will see how it looks once it is hanging.
So align the bottom of the rug with the poster hanger bars. Slide the other bar over the bottom one. Make sure the rug is in the center. If your rug wasn’t cut perfectly you can use the scissors to push the rug in the bars to make sure its not visible on the other side.
Do this to both sides.
Once you have both poster bars framing the rug - that’s it! Now you can find a spot where you want to hang your new wall art.
The Ikea poster hanger already has a spot for hanging it with a nail. You can also get creative and add rope/string to the top to hang.
Not bad for pretty much free wall art.
